On Commenting

You’re probably looking for a commenting policy on this page, but let me give you a little background first.

It’s no secret that my NTOWPC Gallery FAQ is the most popular post on this site. It gets hundreds of views each week from people like you who have found themselves “frustrated”, “blind”, “struggling” with WordPress’ Gallery feature. I entirely agree! It’s probably one of the most convoluted features I’ve ever had to work with. If you are just a casual user of the feature, you forge ahead thinking it’s straightforward until you get trapped into one of Gallery’s oddities, like trying to insert external links into the “Link URL” that appears on each Gallery image in the Image Uploader or Media Library. (Gallery images currently link to one of two things only: either the original image or an image attachment page.  That’s it and nothing more.)

At this point you’re probably asking yourself, “So, what does this have to do with your blog’s commenting policy?”  In short, commenting on my FAQ is now closed. If you have a question about using the Gallery feature, please ask in the WordPress.com Forums (and tag the post with “gallery”) so that we all can learn from the answers. Any comment about using the Gallery feature left on any other post on this blog will be subject to deletion at the discretion of the blog owner.

This does not preclude leaving your very welcome comment about a post you are viewing. After all this is a photography blog, not a Gallery blog.
